Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy can help a woman adjust to the many changes her physical and emotional body goes through during pregnancy. Prenatal treatments support the mother's nervous system and give her a quiet place to receive gentle support as she prepares for labor and birth. As the baby's nervous system develops within, it is beneficial that mother's system remains as stress free as possible.
Postnatal Support and Newborns
Working with mothers and babies postnatally is also beneficial and can help with recovery from childbirth. The gentleness of BCST makes it ideal to treat newborns. During the birth process, the baby's head molds to fit through the mother's pelvis. It is normal for the cranial bones to overlap each other, making the circumference of the head smaller, to allow for easier passage through the birth canal. After birth, these changes to the skull should correct themselves. If that does not happen, the overlapping can interfere with proper cranial nerve function leading to colic, as well as breathing, swallowing, or digestive issues.
Many babies experience strong compressive forces during birth, which can cause restriction within their system. This can manifest as shock and trauma, leading to other conditions. If treated at this stage, the birth trauma can be resolved before traumatic holding patterns become set within the physical body.
Babies respond very well to Biodynamic craniosacral therapy and it is particularly beneficial to rebalance the whole body system within the first year. Biodynamic craniosacral therapy is extremely gentle and respectful to the baby, and recognizes that babies are conscious and very aware.
